The University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) is a distinguished private university branch campus of the University of Nottingham, UK, established in September 2000. It holds the unique distinction of being the first campus of a British university in Malaysia and one of the first globally [7, 8]. UNM is located on a picturesque 48-hectare purpose-built campus in Semenyih, Selangor, mirroring the attributes of University Park in the UK, and is home to over 4,300 students from various countries [2, 8].

The establishment of the University of Nottingham Malaysia was initiated by an invitation from the Malaysian Ministry of Education to the University of Nottingham, UK, to set up an overseas campus. A formal partnership between Boustead Holdings Berhad, YTL Corporation Berhad, and the University of Nottingham was announced in 1998 [8, 9]. This pioneering development marked the first time a British university established a branch campus outside the UK, a significant step in Nottingham's vision for global education [8, 9].

The University of Nottingham Malaysia welcomed its inaugural cohort of 89 students in September 2000, initially operating in Kuala Lumpur. By September 2005, the campus relocated to its current purpose-built, 48-hectare site in Semenyih, located about 30km south of Kuala Lumpur [8, 9]. This move allowed for expanded facilities and a more comprehensive campus environment designed to replicate the academic and living standards of its UK counterpart.

The innovative model of an international branch campus earned the University of Nottingham the prestigious Queen's Award for Enterprise in 2001 and the Queen's Award for Industry (International Trade) in 2006 [8, 9]. This recognition underscores UNM's foundational role in pioneering transnational education and its continued commitment to academic excellence and international engagement over two decades [8, 9, 11].
