Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) is recognized as Malaysia's largest comprehensive university, boasting an extensive network of 34 campuses, 24 faculties, and 9 academic centers spread across the country. This vast infrastructure allows UiTM to offer a wide array of over 500 academic programs, encompassing Foundation, Pre-Diploma, Diploma, Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD levels, alongside various Professional Programmes.

The university plays a pivotal role in national development by expanding access to higher education and fostering the potential of its diverse student body. With over 175,000 enrolled students, UiTM stands as the largest institution of higher education in Malaysia when measured by its physical infrastructure, dedicated faculty and staff, and significant student enrollment numbers.

UiTM has consistently achieved high rankings and received positive ratings from both local and international organizations, including prestigious mentions in the Times Higher Education, UI GreenMetric, and QS World University Rankings. These accolades underscore UiTM's commitment to academic and research excellence, as well as the strong employability of its graduates on a global scale.

Universiti Teknologi MARA's origins trace back to November 1956, when it was established as the RIDA (Rural & Industrial Development Authority) Training Centre in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Initially founded to support rural Malays, the center commenced operations with approximately 50 students and focused on pre-university, business skills, and external professional courses.

The institution underwent a significant transformation in 1965, becoming known as MARA College. This change signified its operational independence from RIDA and its new role as a crucial unit of the MARA Training Division. Further growth led to its upgrade in 1967 to Institut Teknologi MARA (ITM), which was established to address Malaysia's need for trained professionals, particularly among Bumiputera, offering semi-professional courses primarily in science and technology fields.

The current name, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), was adopted in August 1999, signifying its elevated status as a full-fledged university. This transition followed an amendment to the ITM Act of 1976, granting it powers on par with other universities in the country, including the ability to confer degrees up to the Doctor of Philosophy level. UiTM gained autonomous status in 2015, continuing its mission as a leading higher education institution in Malaysia.

Universiti Teknologi MARA's academic structure is broadly categorized into three main clusters: Business and Management, Social Sciences and Humanities, and Science and Technology, encompassing a wide spectrum of disciplines to cater to diverse educational needs and industry demands.

Under the Science and Technology cluster, UiTM offers robust programs through faculties such as Applied Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. It also houses specialized health-related faculties including Medicine, Health Sciences, Pharmacy, and Dentistry, providing comprehensive education in these critical fields.

The Business and Management, and Social Sciences and Humanities clusters feature a variety of faculties like Accountancy, Business Management, Hotel and Tourism Management, Law, Administrative Science and Policy Studies, Communication and Media Studies, and Art and Design, preparing students for professional careers in these diverse sectors.
