Universiti Islam Selangor (UIS), formerly known as Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS), is a distinguished private university located in Bandar Seri Putra, Kajang, Selangor, Malaysia [1, 3]. Established on February 15, 1995, it operates under the full ownership of the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) [4, 6]. The university is committed to fostering excellence in education and knowledge by integrating traditional Islamic teachings with contemporary academic disciplines [9].

UIS offers a wide array of programs spanning Foundation, Diploma, Bachelor, Master, and Doctor of Philosophy levels, all of which are accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) [9, 10]. The journey of Universiti Islam Selangor (UIS) began with its official establishment as Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS) on February 15, 1995 [4, 6]. This founding marked a significant commitment from the Selangor state government to advance educational and knowledge excellence within an Islamic framework. Initially, KUIS commenced operations from a temporary building, the Tengku Ampuan Jemaah Secondary Religious School (SAMTAJ) in Shah Alam, Selangor [4].

A pivotal moment in the university's development occurred in the year 2000 when it relocated to its current, purpose-built campus [6]. Situated on a vast 104-acre site in Bandar Seri Putra, Bangi, the new campus was strategically chosen for its accessibility, being approximately 25 km south of Kuala Lumpur and 20 km north of the KL International Airport [4]. The move facilitated the university's expansion and enhanced its capacity to serve a growing student body.

The current campus was officially inaugurated by Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, the Sultan of Selangor Darul Ehsan, on May 25, 2002 [4]. This event not only celebrated the new facilities but also formally declared KUIS's aspiration to become a world-class institution and a leader in private Islamic education in Malaysia. Over the years, the institution has seen substantial growth, evolving from its initial intake of 60 students in 1995 to enrolling over 5,000 students, including a notable international cohort, and producing thousands of graduates [4]. In October 2022, KUIS was upgraded to a full-fledged university and officially renamed Universiti Islam Selangor (UIS) [6].

Universiti Islam Selangor (UIS) offers a comprehensive range of academic programs through its various faculties and centres, focusing on the integration of Islamic and conventional knowledge [9]. Key faculties include the Faculty of Islamic Civilization Studies, which forms the core of Islamic education, offering programs in Quranic Language Studies, Arabic Language, and Islamic Studies [10, 11]. This faculty is crucial for nurturing scholars and professionals grounded in Islamic principles and heritage.

The university also boasts a strong Faculty of Economics, Accounting & Management, providing diverse programs in business studies, accounting, Islamic banking, and human resource management [10, 11]. These disciplines are designed to equip students with the skills necessary for the modern economy while adhering to Islamic ethical frameworks. Similarly, the Faculty of Education plays a vital role in training future educators with specializations in Islamic Education, English as a Second Language (TESL), and other pedagogical fields [10, 11].

Furthermore, UIS encompasses faculties dedicated to modern disciplines such as the Faculty of Creative Multimedia & Computing, offering programs in information technology and creative multimedia, alongside the Faculty of Communication and Faculty of Social Sciences [10, 11]. These faculties ensure that UIS graduates are well-rounded, capable of excelling in a variety of contemporary fields while upholding the university's foundational Islamic values and contributing to a balanced life for the Muslim community.
