Nha Trang University (NTU), located in the scenic coastal city of Nha Trang, Vietnam, is a prominent public higher education institution. Established with a core strength in marine science, technology, and fisheries, NTU has diversified its academic offerings significantly over the years.
Situated on Lasan Hill, with two sides bordering the sea, the university campus is recognized as one of Vietnam's most beautiful. It provides a conducive environment for both study and research, particularly for disciplines related to the marine economy.
NTU is a comprehensive institution, offering a broad portfolio of academic programs across undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels, attracting a diverse student body from Vietnam and internationally.
Nha Trang University's origins trace back to 1959, when it was founded as the Faculty of Fisheries under Hanoi University of Agriculture [1, 4]. This initial focus laid the groundwork for its enduring strength in marine and fisheries sciences. Over time, the institution underwent several transformations and name changes, reflecting its evolving scope.
In 1966, the Faculty was reorganized as the School of Fisheries, and in 1977, it relocated from Hai Phong to Nha Trang, becoming the University of Marine Products. The institution was renamed the University of Fisheries in 1980 [1].
The university officially adopted its current name, \u201CNha Trang University,\u201D on July 25th, 2006, by a decision from the Prime Minister [1]. With more than 65 years of development, NTU has grown into a reputable multi-disciplinary and multi-level institution, maintaining its leadership in fisheries science and aquaculture [1].
Nha Trang University offers a wide array of academic programs across various fields, with a particular emphasis on marine-related disciplines. Its core strengths lie in marine science, technology, and fisheries, making it a leading institution in these areas within Vietnam [1].
Key disciplines include Aquaculture, focusing on the breeding and management of aquatic organisms; Fisheries Management, emphasizing sustainable resource management; Marine Engineering, which covers the design and maintenance of marine vessels; and Food Technology, with a specialization in marine product processing [7].
Beyond its traditional strengths, NTU also offers programs in Environmental Engineering, Business Administration, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Information Technology, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Accounting and Auditing, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering, reflecting its multi-disciplinary approach [7].
