National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli

The National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli (NIT Trichy) was founded in 1964 as the Regional Engineering College (REC) Tiruchirappalli, a collaborative initiative between the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu. It was established with the vision of producing skilled manpower in technology to cater to the nation's growing needs [1, 9].

In 2003, the institution was granted Deemed University status with the approval of the University Grants Commission (UGC), the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and the Government of India, leading to its renaming as National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli. Further solidifying its standing, NIT Trichy was declared an Institution of National Importance by the National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research (NITSER) Act in 2007 [1].

Today, NIT Trichy is an autonomous co-educational technological institute with a sprawling 800-acre campus. The genesis of the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, dates back to 1964 when it was established as the Regional Engineering College (REC) Tiruchirappalli. In 2007, the National Institutes of Technology Act declared NITs as Institutes of National Importance, aligning NIT Trichy with premier institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Key engineering disciplines include Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Production Engineering, and Instrumentation and Control Engineering.
