National Economics University is a prominent public research university located in Hanoi, Vietnam, specializing in economics, public administration, and business administration.
National Economics University (NEU), located in Hanoi, Vietnam, is a leading public research institution with a strong focus on economics, public administration, and business administration. Established in 1956, NEU has played a crucial role in shaping Vietnam's economic education and policy, particularly during the nation's transition to a market-oriented economy [2, 6]. The university offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs, with a commitment to both theoretical knowledge and practical application in its curriculum [6].
NEU is recognized for its academic quality and has a significant international presence through partnerships with over 100 institutions from 30 countries, including those in the U.S., Europe, Australia, and Asia [2, 6]. These collaborations facilitate joint degree programs and international exchange opportunities for students, enhancing their global exposure and diverse learning experiences [6].
With approximately 25,000 full-time students and over 1,200 faculty and staff members, NEU fosters a vibrant academic environment [2]. The university is also a prestigious research and consultation center, actively contributing to policy-making for the Vietnamese government and providing business development consulting to the business community [2, 6].
National Economics University, originally known as the Central School of Economics and Finance, was founded on January 25, 1956, by a government decree [2, 3]. Its establishment marked a significant step in the development of economic education in Vietnam. In its early years, the institution underwent several name changes, reflecting its evolving role and expanding scope.
In 1958, it was renamed the University of Economics and Finance under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, and in 1962, the Faculty of International Relations was separated to form a new university, the University of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, which later contributed to the foundation of Foreign Trade University and Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam [2]. The university was again renamed in 1965 to the University of Economic Planning.
The institution officially adopted its current name, National Economics University, in 1985, a name it has retained since [2]. Over its more than six decades of existence, NEU has received numerous prestigious awards from both the Vietnamese and Lao governments, consistently demonstrating its commitment to academic excellence and national development [2].
National Economics University is structured into several key faculties, institutes, and research centers that cover a broad spectrum of economic and business-related disciplines [2, 6]. Among its prominent faculties are the Faculty of Economics, which offers programs in general economics, development economics, public economics, and environmental economics, and the Faculty of Business Administration, encompassing specializations like international business, marketing, supply chain management, hospitality and tourism management, and e-commerce [6].
The university also boasts a strong Faculty of Finance and Banking, providing courses in banking and finance, insurance, financial investment, and risk management [6]. Other significant faculties include Accounting and Auditing, Management Science, Marketing, Law, International Economics and Business, Quantitative Economics, Information Technology in Economics, Public Policy and Management, and Real Estate and Resource Economics [2, 6].
These faculties are instrumental in offering a wide array of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs, many of which are taught in English to cater to a diverse student body, including international students [6]. NEU's academic structure is designed to provide both foundational knowledge and specialized expertise, preparing students for impactful roles in various sectors of the economy [6].
