Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE) is a prominent public multidisciplinary university in Vietnam focused on technical education, research, and innovation.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE) is a leading public institution in Vietnam, distinguished by its strong emphasis on technology and education. Established in 1962, HCMUTE has evolved into a comprehensive university offering a wide array of programs across engineering, technology, economics, and languages. The university is committed to providing high-quality human resources for the region and the entire country, fostering an environment conducive to innovation and practical applications [6, 7].
HCMUTE is recognized for its academic excellence both nationally and internationally, with a strong focus on scientific research and technological achievements. The university aims to be a leading hub for education, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship in Vietnam, aligning itself with esteemed institutions globally [6].
The institution has invested significantly in its human resources and infrastructure, expanding international collaborations to provide students and staff with global exposure. Its commitment to continuous improvement is reflected in its pursuit of international accreditation standards for its diverse training programs [6, 7].
Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE) traces its origins back to the Board of Technical Education, which was founded on October 5, 1962 [4, 5]. Over the decades, the university underwent several name changes and integrations with other educational institutions. In September 1972, it was renamed Nguyen Truong To Center for Technical Education in Thu Duc, and later upgraded to Thu Duc College of Education in 1974 [1].
A significant milestone occurred on October 27, 1976, when the SRV Prime Minister issued a decision to establish Thu Duc University of Technical Education based on Thu Duc College of Education. The university further consolidated its position by amalgamating with Thu Duc Industrial Vocational School in 1984 and merging with Technical Teacher Training School No. 5 in 1991, eventually becoming the present Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education [1].
In 1995, HCMUTE became an informal member of National University Ho Chi Minh City and by 2000, it transitioned to being supervised by the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam. The university has since grown to offer numerous bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees, consistently striving for excellence in technical education and research [1, 7].
Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE) offers a diverse range of academic programs through its various faculties and institutes, primarily focusing on engineering, technology, and applied sciences. Key faculties include Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Vehicle and Energy Engineering, which cover fields like automation and control, mechatronics, and renewable energy technologies [7].
The university also features strong faculties in Civil Engineering, encompassing construction and transportation engineering, and Information Technology, with programs in data engineering and information security. Additionally, the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology focuses on environmental and food engineering, while the Faculty of Applied Sciences emphasizes materials technology [7].
Beyond technical disciplines, HCMUTE provides comprehensive education in areas such as Graphic Arts and Media, Fashion and Tourism, Foreign Languages (including English Linguistics and TESOL), and Economics, covering accounting and international business. The Institute of Technical Education further underscores the university's original mission of training technical teachers for the entire country [7].
