Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) is a public technical university in Hanoi, Vietnam, renowned for its strong tradition in engineering and economics education.
Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) stands as a prominent public university in Vietnam, operating under the Ministry of Industry and Trade [1]. With a rich history spanning over 122 years, HaUI has consistently affirmed its position as a leading institution in technical and vocational training within the country. The university is committed to providing high-quality human resources across various fields, contributing significantly to Vietnam's industrialization, modernization, and global integration efforts [8].
HaUI offers a diverse range of academic programs, encompassing doctoral, master's, and bachelor's degrees across 62 undergraduate programs and multiple postgraduate specializations [9, 10]. The institution is recognized for meeting national accreditation standards, with several training programs receiving international accreditation, such as ABET in the United States [13]. This commitment to quality education attracts a large student body, with over 32,000 postgraduate and undergraduate students currently enrolled [9].
The university boasts extensive facilities spread across three campuses totaling nearly 50 hectares, equipped with modern lecture halls, laboratories, workshops, and various support centers, ensuring a conducive learning and research environment [1, 8]. HaUI also emphasizes practical experience, with over 95% of its graduates securing employment within six to twelve months after completing their studies [9].
The origins of Hanoi University of Industry trace back to the establishment of the Hanoi Vocational School on August 10, 1898, by the Hanoi Chamber of Commerce. This marked the beginning of a long tradition in technical education in Vietnam [6]. Over the years, the institution underwent several name changes and expansions, including being renamed Hanoi Practical Technology School in 1931 [6]. Concurrently, the Hai Phong Vocational School was founded on August 29, 1913, and later became the Hai Phong Practical Technology School [6].
A significant milestone occurred on April 22, 1997, when the Ministry of Industry decided to merge the Technical Worker Training School No.1 and the Hanoi Practical Technology School, forming the Industrial High School No.1 [6]. This newly merged institution was subsequently upgraded to Hanoi Industrial College on May 28, 1999, by a decision from the Prime Minister [6].
The current iteration, Hanoi University of Industry, was officially established on December 2, 2005, through Decision 315/2005 QD-TTG signed by the Prime Minister, building upon the foundation of Hanoi Industrial College [6]. Throughout its history, HaUI has received recognition from high-ranking leaders, including four visits from President Ho Chi Minh, and has been awarded numerous national honors, such as the Ho Chi Minh Order and the \"Hero Labour in innovation time\" title [1].
Hanoi University of Industry is structured around a comprehensive set of faculties and schools that offer a wide array of programs. The School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering provides specialized training in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence, alongside industrial design and manufacturing disciplines [10]. The School of Information and Communications Technology is at the forefront of digital education, offering programs in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, and Cyber Security, reflecting the growing demand for skilled IT professionals [10].
The School of Economics encompasses diverse fields such as Business Administration, Marketing, Finance-Banking, Accounting, Auditing, Human Resources Management, and Logistics and Supply Chain. These programs are designed to equip students with the necessary skills for leadership and innovation in the business sector [10]. Furthermore, the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering focuses on Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology, Telecommunications, and Renewable Energy, addressing critical areas of modern infrastructure and sustainable development [10].
Beyond engineering and economics, HaUI's academic breadth extends to other vital areas. The School of Languages and Tourism provides instruction in various foreign languages (English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean) and offers programs in Tourism, Hospitality Management, and Restaurant and Food Service Management, preparing students for careers in the global service industry. Additional faculties, such as Chemical Technology, Garment – Textile Technology and Fashion Design, and Law and Political Science, further diversify the university's offerings, demonstrating its commitment to a broad, application-oriented education [10].
