Can Tho University

Can Tho University (CTU) is a prominent public research institution located in Can Tho, Vietnam, and has been a cornerstone of education and research in the Mekong Delta since its establishment in 1966 [2, 5]. Can Tho University was founded on March 31, 1966, initially known as Can Tho Institute, with four faculties: Sciences, Law and Social Sciences, Letters, and Education [2]. Its initial facilities were spread across four campuses in Can Tho, including administration, student accommodation, and academic buildings [2].

After 1975, Can Tho Institute was reorganized and renamed Can Tho University, expanding its academic scope significantly [2]. Faculties like Education and Agriculture were restructured and diversified into multiple specialized faculties, and in-service training centers were established to meet regional needs [2].

The university continued to evolve, introducing new specializations in response to economic changes and establishing scientific research centers focusing on areas like biotechnology, renewable energy, and farming systems [2]. In April 2003, the School of Medicine – Dentistry – Pharmacy separated to become the University of Medicine – Pharmacy [2].

Can Tho University is organized into numerous colleges and schools, covering a broad spectrum of disciplines. Key academic units include the College of Agriculture, College of Aquaculture & Fisheries, College of Engineering Technology, College of Environment & Natural Resources, College of Information Communication Technology, and College of Natural Sciences [4].
