The Future Of Cities: Identity, Privacy And Smart Cities
Categories :
As cities get smarter to improve the quality of life of their inhabitants, new challenges arise. One of the most prominent ones is the question of identity. In a world dominated by interconnected devices and technologies, our digital identity has become our new ethos. However, it is easy that our identity goes beyond our control, while most companies and cybercriminals are after it. If we are to build the smart cities of the future, we can’t forget about protecting our digital identity.
Human beings love cities, well many of us do. We love them so much that the United Nations are predicting that by 2050, 66 percent of us will live in them. Likewise, the market for smart cities is a thriving one, expected to be around $1.2 trillion by 2022. So how do we make sure that all of those people are housed, have clean water, can get into and out of the city easily, and can breathe the air without coughing? Well, we make those cities smart.
This translates into an avalanche of companies chasing that money by creating smart products that enable the smart city. Smart cities are creating a veritable gold rush, but this time the fever is based on data, often our personal data. To share and transact using that data, we also need to build a smart identity as we build our smart city.
